Sculptural Fossil Travertine Desk
One block. One loop.
A desk conceived as sculpture first and workspace second—the desktop, looping sides, and base carved from one oversized block of fossil travertine.
The brief called for enough presence to anchor the room without a visible joint breaking the line. The opening is not assembled from separate pieces—it is the original block, hollowed until only the loop remained.
Every surface, inside and out, was worked to the same soft honed texture so the desk reads as one gesture rather than a top set onto a frame.
The desk was crated upright and walked into the completed office on padded runners. Its long top edge made levelling exacting; the final position was checked from every side before the protective wrapping came away.
